What makes a good Coworking Space?

November 3rd, 2020

Choosing a coworking space may seem like a daunting task, but keeping a few simple necessities in mind can help you find the facility that will suit all of your business and professional needs.

1. A Variety of Rental Options and Price Points

The ideal coworking space will offer a variety of membership packages to accommodate the needs of all types of clients. This may include permanent desk rental, private office rental, regular boardroom usage, or simply access to the common area and desks.

Look for coworking spaces that offer package flexibility that includes options for computer, printing, high-speed internet usage, and 24/7 access. The more flexibility a coworking space is able to provide in its packages, the more likely you will be to find the perfect combination to suit your unique needs.

2. Reliable High-Speed Internet Packages or Inclusion

While bare minimum inclusion of Wi-Fi is a necessity when choosing your coworking space, look for coworking space providers that also offer High-Speed Internet options or access to a limited or exclusive network.

Access to the internet in the business world is completely non-negotiable, but let’s not also forget that there are faster options available and that limiting user access to a particular network can noticeably improve the overall performance. Depending on what your specific internet needs will be, the option to customize your internet access and speed may either save you some money or improve your internet experience in the coworking space.

3. Well-Rounded Assortment of Included Amenities

So we already know that internet access is an absolute requirement for any coworking space, but there are a number of other amenities you may want to look for when choosing your optimal coworking location.

Office and printing supplies are important extras that are easy to forget about but very necessary to many business tasks and projects. Will you need file folders, paper clips, staplers, pens? Finding a coworking space that will provide access to these necessities (either via an on-site shop, vending machine, or prepaid access to a supply closet) is important to make sure you have what you need to work, without having to heft a lot of extras with you wherever you go.

Also, make sure that your coworking space offers access to printers, scanners, and copy machines, and plenty of extra paper.

4. Security Features and Personal Storage

Making sure that you and your property (such as your laptop and backpack) are safe and secure while you are working in a coworking space is of utmost importance, especially in a facility that offers 24/7 access.

Make sure that the coworking space you choose offers security features including cameras or an on-site security guard. Look for facilities with secure lockers and offices that are only accessible with a card or key. And make sure that there are landline phones available in the case of an emergency.

5. Comfortable, Professional Design and Decor

Although security and supplies might fall a bit higher on the scale of importance in things to look for in your coworking facility, do not underestimate the value of comfort and professional appearance in your workspace.

First of all, if the space is unattractive or uncomfortable, you will be less likely to want to spend the time there you need to get your work done. Secondly, if you are seeing clients in your coworking space, it will be important to appear to be presentable and professional yourself. This will be particularly important in a space that you are sharing with people who you may not know. Make sure that the coworking space and patrons are presentable and reflect your business values and work ethic.

Remember, flexibility, amenities, and security are among the most important things to look for when choosing a coworking space. There a lot of options in the market today, so decide what’s most important for you and search until you find the perfect fit.
